I’m a frame-builder from Tokyo in Japan. I like staying and traveling a lot of places.
It gives me pleasure, experience and inspiration: what you see, listen, talk, eat, etc.- It makes part of my life. I went 3 years at long-established frame builders place, learned method of frame building and complete it as bike.
I started a workshop, call Helavna Cycles. Helavna (hè lˈʌv nˈʌ ) is named from hera-buna, a family of funa: It is a native fish relative of common carp, that is well known fishing. There is a proverb in Japanese fishing “Starts from funa, and ends in funa”.
It means from begenners to an expert; also enthusiastic.
My goal is to build a bike like this word for each Person.
My carrier started from hobby cyclist, a bicycle magazine editor, messenger, then studied at old frame builder.
And began Helavna Cycles ; a couple years ago, from scratch.
My first work were from tool designing and fabricating, and setting them up, even how heavier stuff than me all way by myself.From my point of view, I believe building bikes means and starts from building ones workshop - This is my way.
So, my numbers of frame building is very few.But made from experiences and inspirations in one bike ;
from daily ride to Randonneuring and from daily-life.
Like: during ride I look forward to the road, and listen to the bike what its saying at same time; responds from ground through tire, brake feelings from rim, cranking or buzz sound, etc. I concentrate to feel and know what is going on.
From day-life: from coffee flavor, people's conversation, movies, Pictures, and climate, etc.
Bikes will be completed when people rides.So I work adding these factors to my bike. Thus, I call "100 experiences in 1 bike" . My first hand built bike was for my wife. Well, it was better than what she owned, but still needed to update. This is a latest version of my first built bike.
